Youth Conservation Awareness Program (YCAP) is currently recruiting learning institutions to its ESD program. In this program, we work with environment clubs in schools. On 2nd July, we visited two schools in Nyandarua County. Nyandarua is one of the highly productive Counties in Kenya.
The two schools we visited include:
1. Nyandarua South Secondary School
2. Murungaru Mixed Secondry School
We are very grateful to the following partners who made donations that made the visits a success:
1. Cisticola Tours LTD
2. Kenya Museums Society
We had two main activities in the schools we visited. They include:
1. YCAP ESD Presentation
Our Head of Sustainability explained to the students and their patrons about our ESD program. We discussed the activities that the schools were conducting in their compound and how we would do them in the future. We also had a question and answer session where the students expressed their passion toward this newly formed relationship with their school.
The students watched a few environmental films and were amused by the kind of activities they can do to contribute to conservation. We promised to avail more films to the clubs to help them learn more about conservation.
Nyandarua County provided a different perspective to our ESD program. The County is very productive and the abundance of water has helped the schools to take tree planting activities seriously. One of the schools (Nyandarua South Secondary School) even had their own tree nursery from which they had recently transplanted seedlings. Through the guidance of YCAP, the schools promised to undertake more activities that would contribute to conservation.
